Hello everyone,

Our field trip to the Cold Creek Trout Farm is this Thursday.  Thank you to all those who got their permission slips in and thank you for the donations.  If you haven’t got your permission slip in please do so by Monday or at the latest Tuesday or your student will not be able to go.  A few parents have volunteered to drive.  Please make sure your student knows with whom they are driving.  Please make sure they pack a sack lunch for this day.

The pancake breakfast and 5K was a blast!  So many of our sixth graders helped out!  Thank you to all the parent help as well.  We really are an incredible class.

Another field trip form is coming home next week.  It is f or a walk our class is going to take to Lee’s Duck Pond to eat our lunch on October 1st.  Be looking for the permission slip.

We are having a great year as a class.  We start our day off with independent reading.  We are reading the book, The One and Only Ivan, as a class.  It has led to a lot of great discussions.  We had a class soccer game on Friday.  We built a labyrinth in our garden area and provided the art display in the hallway of the school.  Students are busy at work cycle.  We are in full mode now.

IXL at home is an expectation I’d like to start.  Your student knows how to log on and has his/her password.  Have your student get on at least three times a week.  I can see how much each student has spent with this program and I find that the students who really struggle with math concepts are the ones who do IXL the least.  IXL is the only program besides the test site itself that prepared students for more “public” type learning.  This is a necessary tool for testing and to learn the vocabulary and mode that one would see on a test.  It also covers every math subject needed by the core curriculum.  Each time your student logs on just tell them to do something they can do independently and have it last for about twenty minutes.  It shouldn’t be stressful.  Don’t have your student choose sections they don’t know how to do yet.

We are working on nutrition and health in our physiology lessons this month.  Your students made a goal to eat a healthier and bigger breakfast.   Can you help them be successful with this goal?  Thank you.

I hope you all have a great week.

Ms. Shanan
