Hi parents,

It has been a while since I’ve spoke with you.  Can you believe it’s May?!  Our gardens are going so well, thanks to you all.  We have the best garden of the whole school.  We have rhubarb, strawberries, peas, spinach, beets, chives, lemon thyme, carrots and so forth.  We are just getting ready to plant our pumpkins, zucchini, watermelons and cucumbers.  Thanks again for your support.

We have two field trips this month.  We are going to the Leonardo Museum in Salt Lake on May 13 and to the Ice Sheet in Ogden to ice skate on May 16.  We will need drivers to both.  Please email me or tell your student to tell me if you can drive to either one.  I’ll be sending home permission slips for the Leonardo on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

Our students did really well on the Sage language and writing tests. We can discuss the results at the Parent Teacher Conferences at the end of May.  The math test in on May 12.

The students have been working on their home project at school which is a state study.  They are due by this following Monday.  If you wouldn’t mind checking in with them to see if they need any last minute help that would be great.  They’ve been working in groups so you’ll just have to see what they might need.

There is no school this Friday.

Thank you so much for the flowers today!  It was one of the best days of the whole school year.  You are a really great parent-community to our class.  I feel very loved.  I hope you feel the same from me.

I’m playing around with the idea of having an end-of-year class party for all our families on a Saturday, maybe May  21.  I was thinking maybe at the farm or we could all go to a park or to Crystal Hot springs or something.  It wouldn’t have to be a field trip just all of us deciding to have a party together.  Please let me know your thoughts.  We could also have a party at the end of school after Memorial Day break.  Think about it and please email me your thoughts.

I want you to know how amazing  your students have become.  They can bust out an eleven work-work cycle like its nothing.  They’re doing projects, writing papers, experimenting and exercising.  I also want to say how wonderful the sixth graders were on the Redwood field trip.  We had a blast!!!  We saw tidal pools, climbed Redwood Trees, ate lots of good food and hiked a ton.  I loved that time with them.

I hope you are all having a great spring.

Ms. Shanan
