September 18

Dear Parents,

We are well underway in our classroom and everyone is doing great!  The students are peaceful and hardworking.  They are also learning to get along with each other and find ways to make compromises- a true mini-society.

I apologize that I chose for my students to not attend the field trip on Friday.  Due to the weather and a back injury that I had sustained, I felt it necessary to opt out.  Thank you for your understanding.

I have a request for you.  I hope it isn’t too much trouble.  Your students will be involved in  reading groups (book clubs) that will last the semester.  I am asking if you would be willing to purchase the book for your student and donate it to our class library. It is such a GREAT need and would greatly enhance the room for future students.  If this is too much , can you at least get the book for your student through a city library or other means.  The following are the books needed.  Look for  your student’s name and the accompanying book.

Brynn, Jayden, Ben, Aiden, Matt and Akela:  Pendragon Book 1

Lincoln, Bingham, Trey:   Ranger’s Apprentice

Mckenzie, Valaya, Preslie, Calvin, Stevie: Hunger Games

Maya, Kenadee, Rio, Annie, Lily- Spirit Animals Book one

Konnor, Monica, Carl James, Jennavecia, Mari, Jordynn-Inkheart Book One

Thank you so much.  It would be great if they each had their books by next Monday.

Each month starting in October, students in the upper elementary classes do home projects.  These projects take the place of typical homework.  They are intended to be worked on with parents’ help.  It should be collaborative with your student; this is the way you can interact directly with their education.  The home project list for the year is  on a page in the top page bar of the blog.  Please take note of it for October.  It also includes a rubric for each home project.  Each home project is due on the last day of the assigned month.  It can be turned in earlier if desired.  Students will present their projects to the class.

Thank you to all those who have provided snack.

Sincerely,

Ms. Shanan
